A DEUTZ-FAHR tractor is proving a worthy tool for the heavy jobs on a Yarck family's farm.
The workload for the tractor includes pulling tree stumps and fence posts, as well as running a rotary hoe.
The Beilken family bought its 80ha Yarck property about 18 months ago and aims to redevelop property and lift the production of Damara sheep.
Adam Beilken said the property needed a clean up.
Several months ago, looking to upgrade from a roll-over protection structure tractor, Adam began researching new machines that could handle a range of heavy implements and pull large stumps out of the ground.
He decided the most suitable machine was the new Deutz-Fahr Agrotron M 610, released to the Australian market early this year.
He said the 90kW tractor stacked-up as the best all-round machine to meet his operational and budget requirements.
"It was also one of the few tractors I looked at that has the benefit of a sunroof, allowing you to see above the height of the canopy for loader work," Adam said.
"And it has a good rear-linkage set up where you can back up to your implement and press a button to line it up.
"You don't have to get on and off the tractor all the time.
"I really value that feature - it saves me a lot of time and energy."
Adam said the capacity of the rear linkage at 9.2 tonnes was about twice as much power as he would ever need.
"I have recently been pulling out stumps that would weigh as much as a small car - around 1-1.5 tonnes - and the tractor has not struggled at all.
"Its front loader is great for bale work, with accumulators on each side to take the shock out of the front forks or bucket and create less wear and tear on the front of the machine."
The Agrotron M 610 has the Deutz 2012 series engine, which features the patented Deutz Common Rail system, providing high-pressure fuel injection through individual electronically controlled injector pumps.
Derek Mower, product and marketing manager with Deutz-Fahr distributor, SDF Landgear, said the Agrotron engines delivered rated power at a lower engine speed of 2100rpm, which further improved fuel efficiency.
He said the tractor reached a ground speed of 40km/h at just 1680rpm, saving fuel and resulting in a quieter ride in the cabin.
Adam said he was pleased with the road speed of the Agrotron M 610, which cruised easily at 25km/h. He said he regularly used the new tractor with heavy implements such as post-hole rammers and a rotary hoe for churning the soil.
"It is great for the clean-up jobs we have around the property."
"We have been pulling out a lot of fence posts that are 10 to 15 years old and the Agrotron is handling them easily.
"The hoe that we use as part of our re-seeding operation is very heavy and hard on the tractor, but in the Agrotron you hardly know it is on the back."
Adam said the cab layout was exceptional, with all functions clearly marked and joystick, armrest and dial controls designed to be user-friendly.
"It has a six-gear, four-speed transmission, which is smooth and easy to use.
"It is certainly more fuel efficient and has more capacity than our previous machine."
