ONE of Australia's largest Angus studs, Willalooka Basin, will disperse 400 stud cattle today and tomorrow from 9am each day.

The stud was orginally The Basin Angus stud, one of Australia's oldest Angus herds, until its purchase in 2007 by Willalooka stud owners, the McGregor family.

About 400 cows from the 1000-strong Willalooka Basin stud herd will be offered for sale, including all HBR, and a select group of the best APR cows.

On feed in the US

A WHOPPING 11.1 million cattle are on feed in the US.

This is 1.5 per cent more than the same time last year, according to the latest USDA Cattle on Feed report.

Cattle put on feed during October totalled 2.47 million head, 1.5 per cent higher than a year earlier, which marks the fourth consecutive month numbers have increased compared with last year.

THE Victorian Farmers Federation wants to find Victoria's most talented young farmer, following the launch of the 2010 VFF-Elders Insurance Young Agricultural Apprentice of the Year Award.

Each of the VFF's Commodity Groups is also looking for the best apprentice in their particular field, including the grains, dairy, livestock, chicken, pig and horticulture groups.
