LANGLEY Hall was originally built for the first Anglican Archbishop of Bendigo, Henry Langley, in 1904.

It later became an orphanage, housing up to 60 children, and now stands as a luxurious period-style bed and breakfast and function centre.

Beside it sits a five-bedroom manager's residence, equally as beautiful, that once served as a home for orphanage staff.

The property, in the heart of Bendigo, is nestled amongst luscious green gardens.

Langley Hall boasts 23 rooms, including 11 bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a grand formal dining room, drawing room, library and a billiard room complete with a full-sized table and a portrait of Henry Langley.

Everything about the building, from its intricately designed and unique tin-pressed roofing to the period-style light shades and couches, exudes character and charm.

Anne and Allan Broadhead bought the property almost 10 years ago as an antiques store and transformed it into a bed and breakfast.

They went to auctions, clearing sales and art galleries to source the unique furniture and fittings that have added to the beauty and individuality of the buildings.

Today, they are inundated with requests for accommodation.

"We are very busy. Bendigo is such a place in demand," Anne said.

"The vacancy rate in Bendigo for rental properties has been zero the last three months. "Plus, there is an event in Bendigo every weekend of the year except two."

Allan said it was nice to see familiar faces return to stay.

"Most of our guests return. It's hard to know which ones are our friends and which are our guests sometimes," he said.

Langley Hall has 14 fireplaces scattered across the premises and a large kitchen to cater for guests and various functions.

Other features include an in-ground pool, original brick stables, detached private function room and a character-filled timber chapel.

Selling agent Matt Leonard said the property had huge potential.

"The chapel is the only building requiring some renovation and once finished would make Langley Hall the perfect one-stop wedding location and corporate retreat facility," he said.

Anne said they had been privileged to own the property.

"This is a luxury building and it's absolutely perfect for what we are doing. I love it all, I genuinely love it all," she said.
