THAT was a great holiday prize with the camper van.

Got me thinking, holiday, what holiday?

My wife said the other day that we hadn't been on a family holiday for more than 18 months.

For dairy farmers at the moment it's becoming increasingly hard to get away.

We are more and more reliant on feeding the cows, as there is no grass to graze.

Then there's the labour side.

Who do you leave to do the job?

There is less labour because, ironically, we're told that's the first thing that should go in the budget to cut costs.

Who can realistically come in, milk the cows, feed the calves, clean up, feed the herd, change fences in the time you do and with the knowledge that you have?

It took four of our friends and family to cover me for a day when I had to go somewhere recently.

My wife says "the world keeps turning, the cows keep milking" even if I'm not here.

She says if something goes wrong we're only a phone call away.

I guess it's just hard to let go, but maybe the holiday is needed now more than ever, for all of us.
