THE Show Horse Council of Victoria's annual Masters event on the weekend demonstrated the sheer resilience of the surface at Werribee Park.

After copping more than 100mm of rain in the previous week, there was doubt among competitors that the event could be held.

But the work arena polished up nicely and horses appreciated the soft bounce in the going.

There were several notable wins, including Shepparton breeder Julie Conti's beautiful black mare Dreamtime Oprah, which won the intermediate hack championship over 16hh.

The mare seemed destined for big things last year before she fractured a pedal bone and spent nine months in care.

"It's really been a weekend of dreams come true," Julie said.

"After her win in the intermediate, we decided not to start Oprah in the open class; she was tired and had tried so hard for us.

"She won her led hack over 16hh and was a bit flat in the supreme class, so we patted her and popped her in the stable with an extra large feed."

Oprah was not the stud's only winner.

Naaman Galliano - also owned by Julie and ridden by Bree Stevens - was champion intermediate hack over 15 and up to 16hh.

"I bought Galli from Robyn Parker of Naaman Stud as a weanling, I had hoped he would make a nice Anglo stallion but decided he would be a better gelding," Julie said.

"Turns out I may have been right.

"We have two foals by him before we gelded him, they are rippers too.

"Then to top it off Bree was champion intermediate rider."

The McMahon and McCormick families' small pony, Silkwood Angel Wings, continued on her winning way, taking out the open small pony title, while a surrogate mare grazes at her owner's property waiting to produce Angel's foal next week.

Graeme Elliot's dark chestnut mare, Kolbeach Promise, is another having a great year and won the big pony title ridden by Lynda Hayes.

Lynda's husband Darryl rode Wesswood Royal Caste to win the small Galloway class and RK Request to win the small hack class.

Langtree Stud's Langtree Catchphrase won the big Galloway class, and Stephanie Barrington won the big hack class.

Shelley Penny is showing some nice hunters and won two classes. Sheldene Nevada was champion hunter Galloway and SP Havana champion hunter hack.

Stephanie Barrington scored her second sash for the weekend riding Wingana Loving Cup to a win in the big pony hunter and the small hunter sash was won by Sharon Maynard's Namalie Little treasure.
