ONE of Australia's largest Angus studs dispersed with a whimper rather than a bang last week.
The renowned Willalooka Basin breeding herd at Willalooka, in the upper south east of South Australia, cleared 75 per cent of the 566 lots of cows, heifers and bull calves it offered, with prices reaching $6000.
A subdued crowd attended the sale, which vendor Thyne McGregor said "met expectations".
The sale grossed $594,400 for 425 lots.
Mixed-age cows topped at $6000 twice and averaged $1774 for the 151 sold.
Landmark auctioneer Kevin Norris said the result was good given the state of the industry.
But Elders' Laryn Gogel said while the quality of the cattle was outstanding, the lack of interstate interest at Willalooka Basin would also be evident in coming weaner sales.
