STEER store prices eased at Wodonga special store sale today in line with the tempered prime market.

Grown steers struggled to top at $634, well behind the top of $750 at Wodonga's last special store sale.

Selling agents Landmark, Elders and Corcoran Parker, Wodonga, yarded 3500 grown steers, mixed sex weaners, cows and calves, and joined females.

The sale was supported by a good crowd of restockers, backgrounders, domestic lotfeeders and processors.

Cattle sold to Corryong, Wangaratta, Alexandra, Mansfield, Myrtleford, Albury-Wodonga, Finley, Henty, Wagga Wagga and northern NSW. 

A small selection of grown steers, many penned without weights, sold to a cheaper trend, in line with a subdued prime market and strengthening dollar.

The pens topped at $634 and sold down to $490, equating to 134-156c/kg.

In the heavier end of the weaners, Angus steers sold for $390-$584 (140-185c/kg) while Herefords and Shorthorns sold at $445-$562.

European-cross steers were in demand, topping at $590 and selling down to $405.A feature line of 650 one-mark Angus steer weaners, offered by Widgiewa Station, Morundah, attracted plenty of interest.

The top pen of Dunoon and Rennylea blood calves weighed 315kg and sold to $584, with the balance down to $496.

A smart line-up of big framed, rejoined Shorthorn cows in forward condition, and their calves displayed with liveweights, brought out the restockers.

The herd was offered as a dispersal by David Hill, Holbrook, and topped at $1150.

First-calf heifers with calves and rejoined sold for $770-$920. Grown heifers, weighing over 300kg, sold for $405-$490, while lighterweight weaners sold at $300-$444.
