THE sale of Glen Aila will put an end to more than 100 years of Knight family farming at Quambatook.

But while the farm has a rich Knight history, the large and productive cropping enterprise is an opportunity for a new family to make its mark.

Glen Aila comprises three lots, all close to each other.

The main block, owned and run by John and Kerrie Knight, is 788.9ha.

Two 129.5ha blocks near the home block are also for sale, but are leased until early next year.

John said the house on the main block of land, which was renovated about four years ago, was set on the river in front of an array of trees and had a pleasant view of the surrounding area.

"It's nestled right on the Avoca (River). It's tucked into the neck of it, so it is quite picturesque," he said.

John and Kerrie have primarily farmed wheat, barley, oats and field peas.

John said the property's "fertile and loamy sand" helped produce strong crops.

"It's all been harvested this year already. We did quite good, especially considering the year," he said.

"The quality of the crops was excellent and on average we do fairly well."

On-farm features of Glen Aila include a two-stand shearing shed and sheep yards on the home block, as well as substantial grain storage.

Another block has a 50-tonne Sherwell silo, machinery shed and barn.

John said the farm was easy to manage and was in a great community.

Quambatook is between Kerang and Wycheproof and about four hours from Melbourne.

Glen Aila will be sold as a whole, or in three lots.
