VICTORIAN Phil Lever, from Somerville, competed at his second international show on the weekend riding Ashleigh Drossel Dan, the horse his father Laurie partnered at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
Lever, 23, is based in Germany at Ansgar Holtgers property and has recently taken over the ride on the big grey jumping machine, with plans to qualify for next year's World Equestrian Games and the London Olympics.
At the Dresden International Three Star Show in Germany on the weekend, Lever placed fourth from 40 starters in the 1.55m grand prix riding Ashleigh Drossel Dan. He also won the 1.40m young horse championship, riding the young horse Carisco.
Leading Australian jumping rider Edwina Alexander, from Glenhaven, and James Paterson-Robinson, from Geelong, competed at the Maastricht International Four Star show in Holland with Alexander wining the 1.45m table C class, riding the mare Cevo Late Night, 6th in the 1.50m jump off class, riding Cevo Itot du Chateau and jumped clear to be 17th from 63 starters in the 1.40m two phase, riding Nellypso Des Horts. Paterson-Robinson placed third in the 1.45m table C, riding Casanva Junior and fourth in the 1.50m jump off class, riding Niack De L'Abbaye.
Sweden's Tomas Eriksson beat Australia's Boyd Exell on home soil by winning the third leg of the FEI Driving World Cup in Stockholm, Sweden on Saturday.
Exell, who has won the previous World Cup competitions in Hannover and Stuttgart, was last to go in the World Cup competition in Sweden's capital city, but knocked three balls down and came fifth.
Switzerland's Werner Ulrich ended with second place, followed by his compatriot Daniel Wurgler.
Exell leads the standings after three competitions. If he ends fourth place or higher in Budapest next weekend, he can drop his Stockholm score.
But he is already certain of a ticket for the final in Geneva in April.
Exell admitted a driving mistake in Saturday's course, but had to watch the video to see that the two other balls were knocked down as well.
