SOON-to-retire Nationals MP Ken Jasper has been serving the Victorian Parliament for a long 34 years, but is he worthy of the moniker Father of the Victorian Parliament?

That's what his press release said last week as he talked about his retirement as the member for Murray Valley at next year's election.

But it looks as if Ken is indeed Victoria's longest serving MP, clocking up seven years more than the previous title holder, former Liberal premier Lindsay Thompson.

When a week is a long time in politics, 34 years must seem like an eternity. Perhaps Ken could actually claim he is a grandfather, in parliamentary years.
