THREE of the Riverland's favourite sons are championing the cause of their beloved Murray River.

The Advertiser reports that Mark Ricciuto, Anthony "Lehmo" Lehmann and Tony Modra recently spent a week trawling the river on a boat on a floating fundraiser for Novita Children's Services.

They have encouraged other Australians to explore the beauty of the Riverland.

"The week was awesome, getting out on the river and seeing some of the incredible scenery from Blanchetown to Renmark," said Lehmo, who grew up near Loxton, where former Crows player Tony Modra also lived for 11 years.

"It's beautiful. The Murray gets lots of bad press and it's a lower in some parts that it should be but it's a beautiful part of the world.

"It's a great way to spend a week. I'd really encourage people to come up and have a holiday here, enjoy themselves and support the region."

Ricciuto, from Waikerie, has been a vocal advocate for saving the River, urging people to support it by taking a holiday in the area and buying Riverland produce.
