EMERGENCY services are gearing up for another spate of bushfires on Monday and Tuesday after a brief period of respite on Sunday. 

Two blazes in central NSW were successfully fought by the Rural Fire Service over the weekend.

A fire that burnt 250ha of bushland three kilometres northwest of Eglington, near Bathurst, was put out by the RFS on Sunday.

Another blaze, 12km south of Bathurst near Rockley Mountain, was contained.

But with higher temperatures and blustery winds forecast for Monday firefighters have announced total fire bans in five regions and issued warnings for others.

Areas in the north and west of the state are expected to be at highest risk.

The Bureau of Meteorology say temperatures will rise over the next 48 hours, nudging 40 degrees in some parts.

On Sunday night the RFS declared total fire bans in the Greater Hunter, Central Ranges, Northern Slopes and the North West, Upper Central West Lower and Central West plains.

All are said to be at "severe" risk of bushfires.

The RFS also says the risk of fire in the Illawarra region will be "very high" on Monday.
