LEICA Geosystems has announced a new entry-level precision guidance tool that can be used on farm machinery and in everyday vehicles.
The Leica mojoMINI three-dimensional lightbar guidance system can be used to drive a tractor with 25cm pass-to-pass accuracy and then, at the touch of a button, be a satellite navigation aid.
The all-in-one Leica mojoMINI is an 11cm-wide full-colour touch screen which is mounted in the tractor cabin, via a suction cup attachment.
To utilise the 25cm guidance, a Smart Ag antenna is attached to the tractor cabin roof which then communicates with the touch screen via Bluetooth technology.
Once up and running, the touch screen displays a three-dimensional image which provides the driver with the correct line to follow.
Leica Geosystems' Peter Bailey said the lightbar was a compact unit which placed GPS guidance in the hands of farmers for less than $2000.
"The Leica mojoMINI is compact and portable and the only cable required is to power the unit from a 12 or 24 volt source," Peter said.
"In field mode, it can provide 25cm pass-to-pass accuracy while in street mode it behaves just like any other car satellite navigation device, providing directions to a destination."
The Leica mojoMINI was unveiled recently at Agritechnica in Germany and will be available in Australia from late January.
There are multiple guidance options for the in-field mode, including A-to-B-point parallel, contour and pivot guidance choices for different paddock shapes.
Peter said the three-dimensional display on the touch screen was a big improvement on older light bar systems which lacked the ability to show the driver a perspective of where they were going.
"The 3D-view means the driver can anticipate the direction of the tractor, and the colour monitor makes it easy to learn how to use the system," Peter said.
In on-road mode, the Leica mojoMINI software features spoken street names and advanced lane warnings.
The unit also includes a calculator feature.
