TIRELESS Gippsland dairy farmer Graeme Anderson has been named the second recipient of the Bob Pitman Award for his contribution to the dairy and irrigation industries.

Mr Anderson, who milks 400 cows at Denison and is the chairman of Southern Rural Water's customer consultative committee, was presented with the award at the recent Macalister Demonstration Farm annual field day.

Mr Anderson's contribution to Gippsland's cricket and football was also noted.

The award was established last year and is named after the late Bob Pitman, for his work as a dairy extension officer in the Macalister Irrigation District for more than 40 years, his voluntary work and his 18 years as secretary of MDF before his death in 2007.

Mr Anderson said he was humbled by the award.

"I was just about brought to tears - and that doesn't happen very often," he said.

"When I thought about all of the people who could have received this award, and of Bob and all the work he did for the industry, I realised what an honour it was.

"I love this industry and I love what I do. There have been times when I have thought about stepping back, but then a new issue will stir the passions again and off I go."
