VICTORIANS are urged to look for stars when they buy their next new car.

Volkswagen, Hyundai, Subaru and Skoda have joined a pilot program displaying car's crash rating using star stickers.

The Stars on Cars program will see up to 50 car dealers in Melbourne and Geelong displaying star crash rating stickers on vehicles with safety ratings of 4 or 5 (maximum) stars.

The program has been launched by VicRoads, RACV and the Transport Accident Commission.
