A NEW five-year $12 million apple and pear research program in Tasmania will look for ways to increase orchard profitability and minimise the use of water and agricultural chemicals.
The Productivity, Irrigation, Pests and Soils Program at the University of Tasmania will involve researchers from three states and New Zealand.
Apple and Pear Australia Limited chairman Darral Ashton said the research would have a big impact on the industry.
