BMW is a relative newcomer to diesel power, but it has more than made up for lost ground.

It now has 20 diesel models in Australia, the latest being diesel versions of the 3 Series coupe, convertible and touring.

Each model is available with a 2.0-litre four cylinder diesel and the coupe and convertible add the option of a 3.0-litre six cylinder diesel.

The 2.0 engine, already available in the sedan, has an output of 130kW and 350Nm of torque and delivers a combined fuel use of 5.5-5.8 litres/100km depending on the body style.

The 3.0-litre engine develops 180kW and 520Nm and has a fuel consumption of 6.2-6.4 litres/100km.

Touring prices start at $61,500, coupe prices at $67,500 and the convertible $80,400.

Two new Holdens

HOLDEN Special Vehicles will add two new models early next year, the ClubSport GXP sedan and the Maloo GSP ute.

Both models will be powered by HSV's 317kW 6.2-litre V8 engine and have special suspension tuning, Brembo brakes, daytime running lights, a distinctive rear fascia and other trim from the existing E Series HSV models.

The ClubSport GXP will cost $59,990 and the Maloo GXP $53,990, both plus $2000 for automatic transmission.
