LANDMARK Hamilton Angus steers will be sold January 5, in the afternoon. Landmark Casterton Angus steers will be sold at this sale. Hereford and Euro steers, January 7. Heifer sale (all breeds), January 12.

  • Stephen and Kay Robertson, Glenferrie

GLENFERRIE has 80 steers and 50-60 heifers ready for the new year calf sales.

Their Banquet-blood weaners were born in March and April.

Stephen Robertson said they weighed about 400kg last year and he expects this year's drop to weigh slightly more.

The calves will be drenched and have a 5-in-1 vaccination.

"We'll wean them four weeks before sale, six days in the yards, then on to pasture with a bit of supplementary hay right up to the sale," he said.

"We've been having a good season, so now all we need are some reasonable prices."

  • D Robertson, Nangana, Grassdale

DOUG Robertson is now running about 500 breeding cows on his gently undulating Grassdale property.

This year, he will offer 150 steers and 100 heifers, all of Banquet-blood, which he has used for a decade.

"Last year, they averaged about 400kg and I think they'll be up a bit this season," Doug said.

"We've had a terrific season and are flush with feed."

His calves will be weaned three weeks prior to sale, for several days in the yard, then on to pasture.

The February-March-drop calves will have 5-in-1 vaccines, vitamin A, D and E and two drenches.

Often, the Nangana calves are bought by repeat feedlot buyers.

"They like them for their frame and quiet temperament I think," Doug said.

  • I, P and D Robertson, Wave Hills, Tahara

IAN and Pam Robertson were back in the weaner sales for the first time last year, following a stint of private sales.

This year, they'll be there again, offering 80 Te Mania blood steers.

"We won't sell our heifers - we prefer to sell off older cows instead," Ian said.

Wave Hills has been using Te Mania genetics for the past six years, artificially inseminated to some of the stud's top bulls as part of its Team TeMania program.

The calves were born in mid to late-February and have been treated with 5-in-1, Piliguard and other feedlot preparation treatments.

They will also be weaned for five weeks in the yards on to silage, then fed silage in the paddock.

"I expect they will weigh 350-360kg in late January," Ian said.

"That would be 20-30kg heavier than last year."

  • Stonehaven, T, S & D Rentsch, Penshurst

THE Rentsch family has just bought another farm property, so they now need all the heifers they can get.

Trevor "Tuffy" Rentsch will sell 50 Vermont-blood, unweaned steers in the new year weaner sales.

Born in March-April, the Angus steers are expected to weigh up to 300kg.

Tuffy said they will have been vaccinated, drenched twice and treated for flies.

"And I hope they sell well," he said.

  • Leon and Pam Schwarz, Muston Creek, Caramut

LEON and Pam Schwarz are looking forward to good weaner sales, following a busy lamb selling season.

The Caramut farmers will sell 70 Angus and black baldy steers and 30 heifers.

They use the Moyle family's Pathfinder genetics and the calves are expected to weigh similar to last year's drop at 300-350kg.

They will be unweaned and have treatments of 5-in-1, B12 and selenium, plus two drenches.

"I'd say they are looking good and are comparable to previous years," Leon said.

  • Anthony and Richard Wait, Allambi, Heywood

ANTHONY and Richard Wait expect to sell about 40 steers and 40 heifers in the new year sales.

Richard said they had plenty of feed and hay on their various properties and grain was cheap, so hanging on to a few extra numbers was tempting.

However, they expect to offer a number of their Cannawigra-blood Herefords.

Richard said the Allambi weaners would weigh 340-350kg.

The unweaned March-April-drop calves will be treated with Piliguard, 5-in-1, B12 and trace elements and have been drenched.

  • Neville and Florence Young, Nevflo Partnership, Caramut

THE Nevflo calves are looking as good as ever this year.

Neville and Florence will offer 50 Angus and black baldy steers and 70 heifers, as well as 50 Poll Hereford steers and 28 heifers.

The Poll Herefords, of Wolbull blood, would weigh 300-370kg by sale day, as would the Barwidgee-blood black calves, Neville said.

The March-April drop calves are also EU-accredited and will be vaccinated and drenched.

  • DJ Lyons, Melville Park, Vasey

(The heifers will be sold at the Elders Casterton sale)

DAVID and Olwyn Lyons and their son, Andrew, will have 60 steers and 30 heifers on the market in January.

The dehorned Hereford and Poll Hereford calves are March-May drop, are unweaned and will have received a 7-in-1 treatment plus trace elements.

They were also to be treated with Arrest fly deterrent backliner early this month.

Andrew expects the calves, all of which are sired by their Melville Park stud sires, to weigh 350-38kg.

This year, the stud will offer 50 bulls on March 1 on-property.

  • Dinwooly Farm, Grassdale

ABOUT 100 autumn-drop Hereford and black baldy steers and heifers will be offered by John and Alison Woolridge, who work in partnership with Alison's sister and her husband, Julie and Wilf Dinning.

"We sell the black baldy steers and heifers, and the Hereford steers and keep the Hereford heifers as replacements," Alison said.

The family operation runs 300 cows.

"The calves will be weaned for two to three weeks into yards, then on to pastures," Alison said.

They will also have a 5-in-1 vaccine and selenium and B12.

Dinwooly Farms uses Wolbull Poll Hereford bulls.

Alison expects the calves to weigh up to 350-360kg on sale day.
