A $500,000 report into the future of dairying in the Lower Murray Darling Basin has failed to generate farmer interest.

All dairy farmers contacted by The Weekly Times had not read the report and many were not even willing to tackle the  document, which was released last Thursday.

The report, Lower Murray Darling Basin: the Facts, the Future, was in response to the Inquiry into Dairying in the Lower Murray Darling Basin commissioned by Dairy Australia.

Despite farm-gate milk price drops and drought, the report found that "the best farmers" can still make returns from dairy.
