SPARE a thought for us "oldies" who are left behind in the technological rat race; many of us have neither the means nor the opportunity to keep up with modern technology.

It's very frustrating.

I am a voracious reader and enjoy trivia nights, but depend on friends for transport to venues.

Fortunately, they value my contribution.

When I was young, I remember my parents and friends enjoyed regular card parties.

They took it in turns to entertain one another, and none of them had cars, but used to travel on the Saturday evenings, by public transport.

Using two or more buses, trams or trains to visit their host's home - now unthinkable!

Also, as a young married couple, we enjoyed going to the city at night by train to attend live shows.

Nowadays, apart from the cost of such shows being prohibitive, we hesitate to venture on public transport by night.

How times change.
