AT Casterton this morning 2100 steer weaner calves were yarded, with the bulk averaging 170c/kg.

Angus, European-cross and Hereford weaners were yarded with the better end of the Herefords selling in line with the Angus steers.

Landmark Casterton's Greg Bright said: "The better runs of calves were dearer than at Hamilton yesterday, however the smaller lines were a few c/kg cheaper.

"The change of sale date (from later in January) worked well with buyers heading onto the Hamilton sale this arvo,'' Mr Bright said.

The volume buyer was Terry Ginane from Leongatha who bought 500 steers. He paid from 163 to 178c/kg.

Other interest came from NSW, Mt Gambier and Penola in South Australia as well as Yarrawonga. Local restockers also bought cattle.
