GRAINCORP Limited has appointed former Telstra chairman Donald McGauchie to its board - his second stint.

As one of six former Grain Growers Association directors, he sat on the GrainCorp board from October 3, 2000, until he resigned on July 31, 2003, to take up a position on the board of James Hardie Industries.

His latest appointment took effect from December 23, but he must go before a vote of shareholders at the company's annual general meeting in February.

Mr McGauchie is a current member of the Reserve Bank of Australia board, a director of Nufarm Limited and chairman of the Australian Wool Testing Authority. He was president of the National Farmers' Federation from 1994 to 1998.
