MORE than 100 Alfa Romeos will highlight the 21st anniversary of the Phillip Island Classic Festival of Motor Sport from March 19-21.
Patron of the event will be Kevin Bartlett, who won the Australian Drivers Championship twice in Alfa-Romeo-powered open wheel race cars.
Other drivers with Alfa Romeo racing histories, including Alan Jones, Colin Bond, Tim Schenken, Bryan Thomson, Jim McKeown and Frank Porter, have been invited.
Classic racing Alfa Romeos coming from overseas include the 1931 P3 Tipo B monoposto grand prix car of expatriate Briton Peter Giddings and a 1932 8G 2300 owned by American enthusiast Tom Price.
Also expected to run are 1963 TZ1 (Tubolare Zagato) racing coupe and a rapid 1967 Tipo 33 Spyder sports car.
An overall entry of about 500 touring, sports and racing cars spanning more than 50 years are expected to roll up for what has become the largest classic motors sport festival in the Southern Hemisphere.
Entries include more than 90 Group N historic touring cars and 100 cars in two regularity divisions.
The meeting will also feature more than 40 thundering V8-powered Formula 5000 racing cars.
Other milestones to be celebrated are the 50th anniversaries of the Armstrong 500 (today's Bathurst 1000) and the Australian Touring Car Championship.
The 2010 Phillip Island Classic will be supported by Shannons, Penrite and CoolDrive and will be run by the Victorian Historic Racing Register.
