BUYERS had their New Year prayers answered today at Wodonga with a yarding chock full of weight-for-age.
In one of the better line-ups seen in the past 12 months, vendor bred grown steers topped at $765.
Competition was fierce on the heavy end of the autumn drop weaners with prices hitting $670.
Agents estimate more than half of the yarding headed to rain soaked northern NSW and southern Queensland.
Selling agents Albury Wodonga Independent Agents yarded 4519 locally bred yearling and weaner cattle for the annual blue ribbon sale.
Cattle sold to Gunnedah, St George, Armidale, Glen Inness, Coleambally, Holbrook, Nowra, Cowra, Dubbo, Mudgee, Albury-Wodonga and Tasmania.
Grown steers, weighing over 350kg, sold at equal rates to yesterday (145-175c/kg) but the middle run of autumn drop weaners were 3c/kg easier (177-204c/kg).
Spring drop Ardrossan Angus blood steers, weighing 548kg and offered by Bayrhyll, Tallangatta, were the market toppers at $765.John Adams, Staghorn Flat, was awarded the best presented pen and topped the autumn drop calves at $670.
His pen of 64 Angus steers, weighing 383kg, sold for 174c/kg to Gerard Unthank, Albury, on behalf of a Glen Innes buyer.
Lightweight weaner steers under 250kg received a kick in price, jumping 15c/kg on yesterday to reach 200-210c/kg.
But grown heifers failed to repeat yesterday's solid performance and fell 7c/kg to finish at 128-171c/kg ($445-$590).
Weaner heifers weighing under 300kg took the biggest slide at 14c/kg down (169-174c/kg), selling for $454-$486.
