THERE might be a lot of hay about at the moment, but perhaps there is a new market opening up too.
Anyone who watched the last episode of MasterChef would have seen that hay was used in one of the final recipes, where competitors such as eventual winner swimming star Eamon Sullivan had to wrap a salt crust with a layer of hay around a chicken before cooking it.
Now the Australian Fodder Industry Association has got into the act and put a recipe in its latest newsletter.
It was for ham cooked in hay, and the newsletter encourages experimentation with cereal hay, pasture hay, lucerne and vetch, but silage is not advised!
