THE hunt is on for a horse killer who shot mares and foals and left them to die a slow and painful death on a Queensland station.
Since 2005, seven horses have been shot at close range with a small calibre rifle at Dimbulah, and Boonmoo Station owner Laurelle Gundersen wants the killing to stop, the Cairns Post reports.

The Mareeba Stock Squad is now investigating the matter and is seeking information into the senseless killings.
Ms Gundersen yesterday told The Cairns Post the latest killing, on Christmas Day or Boxing Day, was discovered on December 28 and the mare was on the ground with her shoulder blown out.
It took more than two days for her to die. It's just terrible what's happening," she said.
"We don't know who is doing it.
"It could be kids on school holidays or pig hunters shooting the horses to try and attract pigs."
