IT WAS family that brought Wendy and Max Nixon to this beautiful property at Orbost, and it will be family that will ultimately see them leave.

Wendy and Max built their dream home on this piece of land near Orbost after it was given to them by Wendy's parents in 1985.

More than 20 years later, they are looking to sell their home so they can move to be with their grandchildren.

Wendy said although she and Max were looking forward to being close to their family, it would be hard to leave their "rural retreat" behind.

"It's absolutely beautiful and is overlooking a valley and part of the Snowy River," Wendy said.

"It's always green. We've had lots of drought but we're self sufficient in water, even in a drought, I think that's a real plus."

The architect-designed home was built to make the most of the climate and views of the surrounds.

The home has four bedrooms - two with ensuites - and a large outdoor entertaining area.

It is serviced by a rock fireplace, floor heating and two new split-system air conditioners.

"The view is superb. We ran it as a bed and breakfast for 10 years and people were mesmerised by the views," Wendy said.

"The climate is one of the best in Victoria. It's warmer than Melbourne in winter and we get sea breezes in summer."

Wendy said the property took in the best of the great outdoors.

"The area is lovely. It's close to Ninety Mile Beach, Wilderness Cove and there's lots of national parks around," she said.

An 18-hole golf course is among the many outdoor activities in the area.
