Mohair study
MOHAIR farmers produce 150,000kg of fleece each year compared to 340 million kg of wool produced nationally.
And while the market for mohair is just 4 per cent of the wool clip, mohair producers can take heart from a new Federal Government study.
The three-year study, which compared the profitability of similar-sized mohair and wool farms, showed mohair producers were better off financially.
Benchmarking Mohair Production in Australia was released by the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation this week. To view the report, visit www.rirdc.gov.au
