CAPTAIN Mark Phillips will retire as Chef d'Equipe and technical advisor of US eventing at the end of 2012.
Phillips, himself a multiple Olympic eventing medal winner and father of world eventing champion Zara Phillips, will have racked up two decades of service to US eventing.
He announced his retirement to "give someone else the opportunity to put their stamp on the program".
To date, Phillips has led the US eventing team to 23 team and individual medals during his time at the helm.
Highlights include team silver and individual bronze at the 1996 Olympic Games, team bronze and individual gold at the 2000 Olympics, team bronze and individual silver at the 2004 Olympics and individual silver at the 2008 Olympics.
