A VICTORIAN weekend bushfire in an area popular with dirt bike riders and 4WD enthusiasts is being treated as suspicious, police say.

CFA crews attended a fire that started about 2.20pm on Sunday in bushland north of Toongabbie in Gippsland, between Humphrey and Eagle Hawk Roads.

The blaze measured up to 5ha of forest in an area only accessible by 4WD or off-road motorcycle.

Detectives want to hear from anyone who may have been in the area at the time, including off-road motorcyclists believed to have been in the precinct.
