AUSTRALIA researchers believe some of the world's greatest food production problems can be solved by a new $30 million facility in Adelaide.

Researchers say The Plant Accelerator is one of the world's most sophisticated plant research facilities, which could combat drought and salinity problems and be worth billions of dollars.

The accelerator, combining 50 high-tech greenhouses and labs, was officially unveiled at The Australian Plant Phenomics Facility at the University of Adelaide's Waite campus yesterday.

The facility's director, Mark Tester, says the accelerator will be able to measure plants and how plants grow in a way that has not been possible before.
