BREWERS have until the end of this week to lodge entries in the world's second-largest beer competition.

The Australian International Beer Awards are run by the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria and the University of Ballarat.

Last year a record 1140 entries were received, from 39 countries.

Judging will take place during April, with the winners announced at a gala event at the Crown Palladium on May 20.

Dealing with change

"MANAGING change" will be the theme at this year's Grains Research and Development Corporation research update.

Keynote speaker Andrew Johnston, from the International Plant Institute in Canada, will speak on cutting-edge crop nutrition.

Richard Eckard, of the University of Melbourne, will talk on emissions trading and the implications for growers, while Australian Farm Institute executive director Mick Keogh will address grain-industry trends.

The seminar will be held at the Mercure Hotel and Convention Centre in Ballarat, on February 23-24.

To register, email admin@orm.com.au or phone (03) 5441 6176.
