NSW farmers are stepping up their fight for compensation for the loss of property rights with the launch of a petition.

The NSW Farmers' Association petition has been launched a day after a demonstration was held outside Parliament House in Canberra.

The rally was sparked by NSW grazier Peter Spencer's 52-day hunger strike over state government laws which he says prevents him from clearing native vegetation on his property.

NSWFA president Charles Armstrong says the petition asks the House of Representative to restore farmers' rights to sustainably manage and develop their properties.
