THE MAN infamously dubbed Australia's oldest hoon will be off the road for five years after having his licence cancelled last week.

Ronald Bell, 80, of Aubrey West in the Wimmera, who had his car impounded under anti-hoon laws for doing 160kmh last July, also copped a $3000 fine and a 14-day suspended jail sentence.

It seems the magistrate was not the least bit impressed with the farmer's defence that he had "dozed off".

"It is one of the most ludicrous things I have ever heard," the Wimmera Mail Times reported.

Coming from a country magistrate, that's quite a claim.
