A QUALITY yarding of vendor bred mixed sex weaners topped at 198c/kg for steers and 174c/kg for heifers at Wangaratta.

Although prices for lightweight young steers eased on the store sale held at Wodonga the day before, the draft comprised consistently even lines.

Wangaratta Associated Stock Agents yarded 1706 steers and 825 heifers for the annual blue ribbon beef bred weaner sale.

The sale was well supported by Albury-Wodonga commission buyers and agents, regional restockers, domestic lotfeeders and backgrounders.

Cattle were sold to Finley, Berrigan, Shepparton, Milawa, Yarrawonga, Corryong, Coonamble, Walcha, Walgett, Barraba and Mudgee.

The heavy end of the autumn drop Angus steers topped at $670 and sold down to $622, or 170-192c/kg.

This compared to last year when Angus steer weaners topped at $715 or 166c/kg.

The middle run of Angus steers aged 10-11 months sold for $535-$660 (173-198c/kg).

Pens aged eight to 10 months sold for $550-$645, or 178-194c/kg.

Lightweight weaners weighing under 300kg sold for $442-$464 or 193-206c/kg.

In the Hereford run, the heavy end sold for $535-$645 (186-191c/kg) while the 9 to 10-month-olds fetched $515-$595 (174-188c/kg)

Domestic lotfeeder and restocker demand drove the heifer portion, with females over 300kg selling for $480-$554 (160-171c/kg).

Unjoined heifers weighing under 300kg topped at $480 and sold down to $320 for the secondary types.

This equated to 158-174c/kg.
