COMMERCIAL support underpinned the Glenellerslie Hereford stud sale today, with bulls topping at $6000.

The sale heralded the opening of the autumn bull selling season in the Riverina and southern NSW.

It was held on-property at Adelong by principals Gordon and June Smith, and Ross and Mandy Smith.

A total of 18 bulls sold from the 27 offered for a gross of $55,500 and average of $3083.

This compared to last year's fire-affected sale when 14 bulls topped at $7750 and averaged $3000.

The top price bull, Glenellerslie Innisfail, was bought for $6000 by Raddon and Bruce Reynolds, Fullerton Herefords, Crookwell.

Sired by Glenellerslie Einstein, the two-year-old bull weighed 894kg and was a frame 8.5.

"This is the type of bull we like to get - we liked his length, hindquarter and quietness,'' Raddon said.

The Reynolds family were among four new clients gained at this year's sale.

Glenellerslie co-principal Ross Smith was pleased with the repeat buyer support.

Buyers attended from Buchan, Club Terrace, Wulgulmerang, Tintaldra, Tumut, Tooma, Gundagai and Adelong.

Among the major buyers was Robert Webb, of Tumut, with three bulls to a top of $4000.
