I READ with interest your article "Women take to the wheel" (WT, December 23), and decided to drop you a line to tell you of my experiences.
I have been driving trucks and tractors for over 40 years and I still cart grain, as I do every year into our local silo at Quambatook.
I am now 70 years of age and still do it because I love it.
Despite the heat, dust and flies, I still manage to get meals and I'm flat-chat all day, but loving it.
There were three generations until recently: my Dad, myself and my son Peter.
Dad passed away and now it's only my son, the header driver and myself on the trucks.
There's no air-con in any of the trucks, so it does get rather hot.
I was driving in 1964 when seven months pregnant with my third child and will keep on, God willing, for many more years.
