TASMANIAN growers of a sweet, small stone fruit will have their bite of the cherry this week when their first-ever consignment heads to Korea.
State and federal ministers talked up a decision by Korea to allow Tasmanian cherries to be imported.
Trade Minister Simon Crean said Australia viewed Korea as an important, strategic trading partner.
"It is our third largest export market for goods and services," he said in a statement.
Agriculture Minister Tony Burke said it was an important milestone for the horticulture industry.
Australia sought market access in 2005.
