THE Skye Park Rugs Victorian Show Driving Championships at Greenvale on January 31 attracted high quality, beautifully presented entries.
Well-known harness judge and competitor, and former face of the Carlton and United Brewery team, Mike Thill, judged the delivery, carriage driving and driver classes.
Madeleine Bentley, well known in both combined driving event and show circles, presided over the Led and Light Harness arena.
Both came together to judge the three supreme awards.
In the led classes, Peter Hennel's lovely Hackney Dunolly Final Edition took out the tri-sash, relegating his sister Barbara Hennel's lovely black and white non-hackney pony Pricklebush Blackberry to reserve.
Andrew Marshall, driving his Hackney horse Dunolly Illustrious in a beautiful Sydney Brass sulky, took home the Supreme Turnout rosette.
In the horse classes, Dunolly Final Edition again won the broad sash. Dunolly Illustrious was reserve.
The Non-Hackney Horse Championship went to Kim Filmer's Remlif Park Avalon, with reserve going to Andrew Pollock's Wylandra Fredrick.
Barbara Hamilton and Llangarron Hercules and Rebecca Boyd's Penybayr Havanah picked up championships in their respective classes.
The multiples championship sash went to Barbara Hennel's eye-catching pair of black and white ponies Cherrytree Foxglove and Pricklebush Blackberry.
In the second arena, Mike Thill judged the led Clydesdales, and Steve Peters' heavy delivery and gentle giant Meadowlane Jackson took out the championship.
Ron King's medium delivery Gus stood reserve.
Champion Delivery Turnout went to Steve Peters and Meadowlane Jackson Jackson also won the Supreme Delivery Horse.
The Turnout Champion in this ring, which incorporated the Combined Driving turnout and Pleasure Turnout, was awarded to Dawn Walter and her lovely Yanina Mister Mystical, with Reserve going to Andrew Pollock and Wylandra Fredrick.
Pricklebush Blackberry went on to win Supreme Light Harness exhibit.
Classes for the best drivers were won by Rebecca Boyd in the junior section, and Andrew Marshall for 18-40 years.
The winning driver over 40 was Peter Hennel and the winning delivery horse driver Steve Peters. Hennel carried off the champion driver award.
