DAMS are full for the first time in more than a decade following heavy rain along the NSW south coast and parts of Victoria.
In Victoria, southern and coastal towns received the best falls while in NSW, Narooma, Bega, Bodalla and surrounding south coast towns received heavy rain of up to 393mm during the past week.
Bega recorded 215mm of rain while Narooma and Bodalla, in the Eurobodalla Shire recorded 393mm and 161mm of rain respectively.
Narooma's long-term rainfall average for February is 86.7mm while Bega's is 75.3mm.
Bureau of Meteorology climate meteorologist Dr Harvey Stern described the rain as "very uncommon" and said it was caused by a deep low-pressure system with high amounts of moisture that was moving over the NSW south coast.
The rain has caused considerable damage to roads, buildings and farm fencing.
"It's been enormous the amount of rain that's fallen," Eurobodalla Shire Council mayor Fergus Thomson said.
"Several culverts and bridges have been washed away completely but we don't quite know yet how bad it is (the damage) because you can't access a lot of the roads that are flooded."
Despite the damage, Mr Thomson said the rain had provided a reprieve from the dry conditions of the past decade.
"It's been extremely dry and the areas that have been doing it really hard," he said.
"They've all had a good rain."
The low-pressure system in NSW also saw the heavens open across parts of Victoria.
Orbost, Sale, Bairnsdale, Mt Hotham, Portland, and Hamilton received heavy rain.
Orbost recorded almost twice its February average of 59mm, with 102mm falling during the past week.
Rain gauges at Mt Hotham recorded 94mm for the week, well above the February average of 59mm.
More than 50mm was recorded at Bairnsdale for the week, edging just above the February average of 48mm.
Dr Stern said the rain was expected to ease in Victoria but there was still a lot of moisture on the NSW south coast.
In NSW, the Lachlan River is flowing again east of Hillston.
Hillston had 73mm while further east along the Lachlan River, Condobolin recorded 133mm over the weekend.
