GRAIN Growers Association has narrowly lost a bid to scrap its regional advisory committee in favour of a broader group covering all states.

At a ballot at the GGA annual general meeting in Albury last week, the board received 73 per cent of the vote in favour of the proposal, failing to achieve the required 75 per cent pass rate by just 2 per cent.

GGA chairman John Eastburn said the regional committee would remain in place with elections to be held in September.

Mr Eastburn said the board would talk to regional committee members about its advisory group at a meeting likely to be held mid-year.

A string of speakers at the AGM told the GGA board it was losing touch with its members.

Only about 30 members attended the AGM, well below numbers of past meetings.

Condobolin regional committee member Peter Mooney said he was very glad the motion to abolish the committee was defeated.

"The presentation of what they (GGA board members) wanted to put in place in its stead was so poor," Mr Mooney said.

"The problem is that the board is not engaging with members and involving them."
