BULL sales have continued to throw up mixed results.
Of the 737 bulls that went under the hammer in a recent week, 641 - or 87 per cent - sold.
Red Hill Herefords at Euroa continued its cracking run with the best bull selling for $28,000 at the stud's third annual bull sale.
The top-priced bull, Red Hill Dudley, sold to a buyer from Mt Gambier in South Australia.
In South Australia's South East last Monday, Days Whiteface stud at Bordertown sold 56 Poll Hereford bulls from 61 offered, to a top of $12,000 and an average of $3795.
"It was a solid sale - back on last year - but given the state of the beef market it was definitely a solid result," principal Lachlan Day said.
South Australia Willalooka Basin Angus held its final southern bull sale at Naracoorte.
Of the 120 bulls offered, 84 sold, with "three or four" selling after the sale according to stud principal Thyne McGregor.
The top-priced bull sold for $6000 while the sale averaged $2518.
"It was tough enough," Mr McGregor said.
Another 65 bulls will be offered this spring at Roma in Queensland.
The Gubbins family's Western District-based Coolana Angus stud held its first South Australian bull sale immediately after the Willalooka Basin auction.
Bulls topped at $6500 and averaged $3300, with 40 from 45 selling.
"We were very happy with the sale, it all went smoothly," principal Mark Gubbins said.
Roseleigh Angus stud, at Keith in South Australia, sold the highest-price Angus bull during the week - for $11,000.
All 30 bulls offered sold, for an average of $4285.
