FEDERAL drought policy needs to be overhauled, according to the National Farmers' Federation.

The NFF has called for the Federal Government to adopt a pilot scheme before this year's election.

The NFF argued at the previous Federal election that "drought relief" should be "drought management and preparedness" which involved a mutual obligation, with farmers required to show they were farming sustainably and Government investing in "on-farm climate adaptation and mitigation practices".
