ALL over the world, fruit salad can be considered a favourite dessert, not only because of the sweet taste it provides, but also because of the many health benefits you get from eating it.
It's also one of the easiest dishes to make.
Best of all, the variations that come with the dressing that is poured over the fruit, whether the dressing is hot or cold, adds another level of versatility.
CITRUS FRUIT SALAD IN SPICY HONEY
- 2 cups water
- 2 star anise
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 6 cloves
- Juice and zest from 2 lemons or limes
- 4 tbspns honey
- Selection of sliced fruit (2 oranges, 2 ruby grapefruit, 2 kiwifruit, 4 firm plums, 2 firm peaches) Thin slices of lemon and lime for garnish
Bring the water to boil, simmer with the star anise, cinnamon, cloves and zest for 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, prepare your fruit and arrange in serving dishes.
After 10 minutes, turn off the heat, discard the spice and combine the warm liquid with lemon/lime juice and honey. Drizzle the spicy honey over the fruits. Serve warm or at room temperature.
