THE Wimmera Machinery Field Days was bursting at the seams with the latest in agricultural equipment and know-how when the gates opened yesterday.

Event organisers had the "full house" sign up as about 700 exhibitors flooded the site with everything from telehandlers to native trees.

WMFD manager Murray Wilson said in terms of exhibitors, this year's event was the strongest in about a decade.

"Many exhibitors requested larger sites, so there is plenty to see," Mr Wilson said.

Alison Sipthorpe, from the Wail Nursery at Wail, has been an exhibitor at the field days for five years.

"It's a great event to promote your products," she said.

"You get in front of a huge crowd, which includes interstate visitors."

Some of the first visitors through the gates yesterday included eight-year-old Abbey Hawker and her three-year-old brother, Joshua.

Abbey and Joshua's dad, Alan, a farmer from Horsham, said he would not dare miss the field days.

"It's fantastic to come and see the latest gear and how I can spend some money," he said.

The field days finish tomorrow.
