COOLANA Angus sold 37 bulls from 43 offered for a solid average of $3567 at Chatsworth in the Western District today.

Stud co-principal Mark Gubbins said he was pleased with the sale, having not known what to expect from this year's autumn offering.

"We just didn't know what to expect, I am pleased how it ended up though - we would have liked a complete," he said.

The sale comes on the back of a very successful inaugural sale for Coolana in South Australia's South East last month where 40 bulls sold from 45 offered for an average of $3300.

At Chatsworth today South Australian buyers again supported the stud, with most volume buyers coming from across the border.

The top-priced bull, fetched $6500, was an Ardrosssan Connection X15 son, bought by Bundoora at Mortlake.

Last year's autumn offering at Chatsworth saw 50 bulls selling from 68 offered, averaging $3240. While the year before Coolana offered 90 in autumn, selling 71 for $3390 on average.

This year's volume buyers included Kangaringa Station, north of Keith in South Australia.

Livestock manager Dan Jones purchased six bulls, averaging $2900. This followed on from the Padthaway sale where Mr Jones collected four bulls for the Keith property which is owned by Virginia potato grower Barry Farmer.

Another big buyer included Spence Dix agent Bruce Treloar, who bought six bulls for SA clients that included four for Naweena, owned by John Collins at Padthaway in SA and one each for John Higgins, Kingston and Tatiara Pastoral at Meningie.

Other buyer interest came from the Mortlake, Grassdale, Birregurra, Caramut, Camperdown and Tasmania.
