PRICES for weaner steers and heifers were up $80 on Euroa's previous in early February, according to Scott Meehan of Newmarket Livestock.
While young steers sold from 180-190c/kg, there were exceptions.
Clamon Angus from Romsey sold 14 Angus steers, aged 11 months and weighing 352kg, for $690 or 195c/kg.
They bought by John Gregory of Rodwells Benalla for a Gippsland grass finisher.
Mr Meehan said while there were some top prices the yarding, of 1040 head including cows and calves, didn't include enough larger lines to provide the competition to equal Wodonga or Myrtleford.
In the cows and calves, Neville Walters from Euroa who had sold his property yarded 64 Angus cows with Euro-cross calves up to four-months old.
The tops of the cows and calves sold for $1250.
In the joined heifers pens Stewart Way of Tocumwal dispersed 65 Angus heifers which were pregnancy tested to calve to a Brangus bulls from April.
The tops of these well-conditioned heifers sold $1120.
Mr Way who had bought these heifers as weaners from Gippsland 18 months ago for less than $500, thought they should have made about $100.
They averaged $1050.
In the heifers pens Simon Weatherald of Creightons Creek sold 19 pure 371kg Simmental heifers for $725, or 180c/kg.
The steer proportion which were 100kg were sold by Mr Weatherald six weeks ago at 160c/kg.
"It just shows how much the market has picked up since then,'' he said.
