STUART McCullough has has been appointed as the acting chief executive of AWI.

The appointment takes effect immediately.

Former CEO Brenda McGahan will leave the company on Wednesday, March 17 and will continue to assist in the transition arrangements.

In a statement AWI said Mr McCullough was well known to Australian woolgrowers and has been with AWI for nine years.

He has worked in a range of roles within the wool industry.

AWI chairman Wal Merriman said the AWI board had begun an extensive recruitment process for suitable candidates for the permanent position of CEO.
