THE benchmark Eastern Young Cattle Indicator has hit an 17-month high.
The EYCI closed at 346.75c/kg carcass weight on Monday - its highest point since October 2008.
The indicator gained almost 6c/kg last week, before losing 1c/kg at last Friday's cattle markets, ahead of the Victorian long weekend.
It rose a further 3.25c/kg on Monday.
Meat and Livestock Australia said other eastern indicators also fared well last week, with trade steers and US cows both averaging 3c/kg dearer.
