CATERPILLAR'S latest telehandler was on display for the first time at last week's Wimmera Machinery Field Days.

The CAT TH407 has a lift height of 7.3m and a load capacity of 3.7 tonnes.

The telehandler is one of three new models from CAT, including the TH336 and TH406.

The TH407 is the largest of the three models with the longest reach and heaviest payload capacity.

William Adams territory manager Craig Pietsch, Horsham, said the new range was an upgrade of previous models.

"CAT's new models have plenty of features including three steering modes and CAT engines," Craig said.

The engine of choice for the new telehandlers is a CAT 4.4 DITACC diesel motor.

The TH407 displayed at the Wimmera field days was equipped with a 93kW turbo-charged engine with a 4.4-litre capacity.

The engine meets current Tier 3 emission regulations and is available as an optional extra on the TH407.

The two other models in the range have a 74.5kW CAT engine.

A new engine-cooling package has been relocated to the rear of the engine bay and features three separate sections for engine coolant, the transmission oil and an air-to-air charge cooler, or intercooler.

An optional reversible fan and air filter pre-cleaner are available for working in dusty conditions.

The 93kW engine telehandlers feature a five-speed powersynchro transmission while the 74.5kW versions have a four-speed transmission.

The telehandler's top speed is 40km/h and there is a limited slip differential fitted to the front axle.

Hydraulic control is delivered via a load-sensing, variable displacement pump that provides oil flow only when it is needed, reducing fuel consumption and heat generation.

Various implements can be attached to the telehandler's boom via the CAT IT manual coupler.

A hydraulic coupler is available as an optional extra, which means implements can be changed without the need to get out of the cabin.

A range of CAT tools and implements are also available, including pallet forks, a side-shift carriage, general purpose bucket, bale handler and grapple.
